Fishing for Walleye. Walleye are one of the more popular gamefish in New York, as they are exciting to catch and also good on the table. Walleye are aptly named because of their unique eyes that have a reflective layer of pigment called the tapetum lucidum, which allows them to see very well at night and during other low-light periods. Fishing Wisconsin's fantastic Fall fishing - a little chill, a little color and lots of fish. The MNRF is proposing a new bait management strategy and the outcomes will affect the way anglers use and harvest bait in Ontario. The strategy applies to baitfish and leeches (live or dead) but does not include crayfish, frogs, and worms.

For nearly a decade, the OFAH has been actively engaged in bait management in Ontario. We participated on the MNRF's Bait Review Advisory Group, attended. Fisheries management aims to control fishing pressure so that fish are not harvested faster than they can reproduce.

Three indications that a fishery has influenced a fish population include (Joynt and Sullivan ): A decrease in the size of fish being caught, indicating that fish are being harvested before they reach their full size.

With zero or very low catch limits for native species, some western anglers welcome a chance to harvest a few brookies (anglers in Ontario and Quebec, on the other hand, have traditionally enjoyed eating at least some of their native brook trout).

No matter where in Canada you fish for them, brookies are thrilling to catch. For example, say I'm fishing a pond that I know is no deeper than 10ft. Is there a chart somewhere that I could reference that might offer suggestions for jig weights at that depth (e.g. bottom jig, 1/2 ounce; swim jig, 1/4 ounce with a trailer, etc.).
